Coffee was originally introduced to Papua New Guinea in the early 1900s by German and British merchants to sell into Australian markets. Most of the coffee on the island is originally Blue Mountain variety from Jamaica. and is most typically grown in what are known colloquially as gardens; small plots that are held in common by the community. This coffee comes from the Eastern Highlands and is grown mostly by smallholders on their patios and sell cherries to a local washing and aggregation station which takes care of the post harvest processing. We find PNG coffees often serve as good Brazilian or Colombian replace coffees and tend to have a nice, buoyant body with fruity to savory flavor notes. This coffee easily displays the most common attributes of coffee B coffees from Papua New Guinea, with a medium full body and almost spicy finish that doesn't cover the vanilla and cola flavors.
