In the northwest of Minas Gerais lies Cerrado Mineiro, a region that has become one of Brazil’s most respected and dependable coffee origins. Defined by distinct seasons, broad plateaus, and elevations ranging roughly from 800 to 1,300 meters, the Cerrado offers something particularly valuable in coffee: the conditions to produce quality with remarkable consistency. Coffee, however, did not come easily to this landscape. Many producers arrived in the Cerrado beginning in the 1970s, some driven from established growing regions by frost in Paraná and agricultural challenges in São Paulo. What they encountered was land with tremendous potential, but highly acidic soils that required significant correction before coffee could thrive. Through investment, agronomic knowledge, and decades of adaptation, producers transformed the region into one of the world’s most sophisticated coffee-growing landscapes. That spirit of problem-solving still defines Cerrado Mineiro today. Farms range from multigenerational family properties to highly technical estates, but across the region there is a shared emphasis on precision—from cultivation and selective harvesting to drying, sorting, and preparation. Predictable wet summers support cherry development, while the pronounced dry season typically coincides with harvest, creating favorable conditions for controlled drying and repeatable quality. In the cup, Cerrado coffees are equally dependable. This region produces coffees with substantial body, and deep sweetness that is anchored by chocolate and toasted nuts. This coffee also has a velvety texture that performs exceptionally well in espresso.
