Following severe flooding across northern Sumatra, shipments from Aceh have faced ongoing delays as infrastructure and logistics slowly recover. While we await the arrival of our Double Dutch Sumatra, we secured this small lot of Grade 1 Double Pick Gayo from a trusted partner to help bridge supply. Produced by Mandiri Kopi in the Bener Meriah District of Aceh, this coffee delivers a classic, old‑school Sumatra profile: a dense, weighty body with notes of red tea, bittersweet chocolate, malt and bakers spice. Its low acidity and substantial mouthfeel make it an excellent choice for Italian‑style espresso blends or any application where additional body and structure are desired. Although commercially labeled Mandheling, the term today functions primarily as an export designation rather than a precise geographic origin. Historically, “Mandheling” referred to the Mandailing ethnic groups of northern Sumatra, and over time the name became associated with the rich, full‑bodied coffees produced throughout Aceh and North Sumatra.
