Tributos del Ota is rooted in the pristine valley of Santa María de Dota, located 64 km southeast of San José and framed by the dramatic peaks of the Talamanca mountain range. This valley enjoys remarkably stable weather patterns, allowing for even, homogeneous cherry ripening throughout the harvest. At 2000 MASL, the region’s high elevation slows maturation, concentrating sugars and producing coffees with striking sweetness, lively acidity, and a broad spectrum of fruit‑driven descriptors—qualities that define the best of Dota. The project itself is the result of a pivotal moment in 2017, when Enrique, fresh out of secondary school, proposed a bold idea to the Romero Chacón family: instead of selling their coffee anonymously to larger mills, they should present it under their own name and identity. His vision was to honor the family’s work, elevate their craftsmanship, and give their coffees the recognition they deserved. The family embraced the idea wholeheartedly. Since then, every member has contributed to bringing Tributos del Ota to life—managing harvest, processing, and quality control with a shared sense of purpose. Their dedication is especially evident in this experimental Geisha lot, where the variety’s floral elegance meets the valley’s natural sweetness and altitude‑driven clarity. We’re proud to offer the results of their tireless labor this year: a refined, expressive coffee that captures both the terroir of Santa María de Dota and the spirit of the family behind it.
